Digital and information technologies

The Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO) is organizing a medical technology innovation mission to India from 19 April to 25 April 25 2026. The mission is aimed at organizations and knowledge institutions active in (bio)medical technology (MedTech), medical imaging, diagnostics, digital healthcare, AI in healthcare, or data-driven health innovation. During the mission, future market opportunities in India will be explored for co-creation, research and development partnerships, and scalable pilots with Indian innovators. Registration is open until 15 January 2026.

India is undergoing a profound transformation in medical technology (MedTech), digital health, AI-enabled diagnostics, and health data infrastructure. The MedTech sector is currently estimated to be worth $16-20 billion and is expected to grow to $24-30 billion by 2030, driven by the production of medical equipment and technology, diagnostics, and AI-enabled clinical devices. With more than 10,000 HealthTech and MedTech startups, strong engineering talent, and supportive national policies for R&D and manufacturing, India offers significant opportunities for collaboration in:

  • AI for medical imaging and biosignal processing.

  • Data-driven healthcare solutions.

  • Wearable technology and electronics.

The Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM), India's national digital health backbone, is accelerating electronic health record (EHR) standardization, interoperability, and health data portability for more than 1.4 billion people. This scale makes India one of the world's largest testbeds for AI in healthcare, population-scale data infrastructure, digital public goods, and medical device integration.

What can you expect from the mission?

The mission brings together experts from the Dutch and Indian ecosystems to explore research and development opportunities, strengthen collaborations, and develop MedTech solutions that address healthcare challenges. The goal is to enhance our understanding of the MedTech landscape, AI in healthcare, and the digital health ecosystem in India.

Potential areas of collaboration include the use of AI-driven, labor-saving technologies to address the healthcare workforce shortage in the Netherlands (e.g., in elderly care, oncology screening, and chronic disease management). Furthermore, there are opportunities for cross-border R&D, with Dutch innovators collaborating with Indian research centers to jointly develop AI algorithms, clinical datasets, and innovative healthcare technologies.

Who can participate?

This mission is intended for innovators, researchers, engineers, clinicians, ethicists, entrepreneurs, business developers and anyone affiliated with a knowledge institution, academic medical center, technology company or patient organization.

Actively involved in one of the MedTech domains mentioned under "Why India?" Then this innovation mission might be of interest.

Preliminary programme

The mission will visit three key hubs: New Delhi, Hyderabad, and Bengaluru. Each hub represents a crucial component of India's policy, digital healthcare, and MedTech ecosystem.

  • New Delhi is the center of India's health policy, digital health architecture, and regulatory ecosystem. It provides the policy, regulatory, health data, and national programs essential for international cooperation.

  • Bengaluru is India's strongest cluster for AI, digital health, imaging, machine learning-based diagnostics, and device and software integration. This makes it an ideal ecosystem for collaboration with AI healthcare pioneers, imaging experts, biosignal processing researchers, digital health platforms, and deep-tech medtech innovators.

  • Hyderabad complements Delhi and Bengaluru with scalable manufacturing and clinical validation environments. Telangana's life sciences vision targets an investment of €12-13 billion by 2030. This provides insights into medical technology manufacturing, prototyping, device certification infrastructure, large-scale diagnostic companies, and robust clinical data environments.

The program is designed to provide a broad overview of the latest developments in these three key hubs. It includes visits covering a wide range of topics related to innovation, policymaking, and ecosystem development in MedTech, AI in healthcare, and digital health.

The program is still under development and RVO will tailor the final program as much as possible to the interests of the participants.
