National Conference on Autonomous Systems 2026

A sold-out first edition in 2025, with over 400 attendees, made it clear that autonomous systems are no longer the domain of a small group of specialists. On 2 April 2026, the National Conference on Autonomous Systems (NCAS’26) will return to the De Lawei Theatre in Drachten, with one central question: what is needed to ensure safe and scalable autonomous systems function in complex, dynamic environments where reality is unpredictable?

We are at the dawn of the Autonomy Economy, in which (AI-driven) autonomous systems make work across all sectors smarter, more efficient, and safer. Autonomous—meaning self-directing, unmanned, and self-learning—systems will become indispensable for tackling major societal and technological challenges in every sector, and they represent the fastest route to increasing labor productivity and safeguarding our economic earning potential (Draghi).

The rapid rise of autonomous systems—with old barriers being broken down at record speed—offers unprecedented opportunities across the economy and society: for process owners to elevate their operations to the highest level, and for the chain of high-tech technology providers to innovate with real impact.

NCAS’26 aims to inspire users (service providers, process owners) and technology providers to embrace more autonomous systems, while positioning the Netherlands as a frontrunner in the upcoming Autonomy Economy. The focus is on the technology side (IT/OT) of autonomous systems: success stories, future developments, how-to insights, impact, and business models.

For whom

  • Companies and public organizations that run operational processes (in industry, logistics, agriculture, water management, energy, living environment, healthcare, etc.).

  • Technology providers (machinery, robotics, hardware, etc.), system integrators, and solution providers (including AI companies, sensor, software & IT providers).

  • Researchers contributing to the development of autonomous systems.

  • Policymakers aiming to leverage autonomous systems to strengthen the (regional) economy and other ecosystem partners (finance, education, legal, etc.).

Programme

NCAS’26 will feature lectures, demonstrations, and networking opportunities, with the following key components:

  • Plenary opening and closing sessions

  • Parallel sessions for Business and Science tracks

  • Demo track showcasing autonomous systems on stage

  • An extensive demo floor

Additionally, there will be a side program including a student hackathon (1 April), various matchmaking events (1 April), and on the main day: a breakfast for selected startups and speakers, as well as a regional ecosystem event organized by EDIH-NN.
