NAE Forum: impact of key technologies on innovation processes

On 15 April 2026, the Netherlands Academy of Engineering (NAE) is organizing the NAE Forum. The NAE Forum is a place where experts discuss technology and innovation together to find solutions to societal problems. This year, the theme is 'Key enabling technologies: closer than you think. What do they mean for your field of expertise?'. Peter Stolk, Chair of Key Enabling Technologies and Holland High Tech, will speak about the importance of key technologies during this edition of the forum.

There is an abundance of publications on technology and innovation. Consider the recommendations of Peter Wennink, the recent Industry Letter, and the 3% R&D Action Plan. All these initiatives rest on the same conviction: the Netherlands possesses a strong base of people who realize and apply technological innovation.

To provide direction to the Dutch commitment to technological innovation, the National Technology Strategy (NTS) has been developed. Within this strategy, ten key technologies have been selected for which concrete action plans have been drawn up. These plans were presented on 26 January 2026.

What do the key technologies mean for your field?

How can key technologies be utilized within the engineering disciplines? And what new perspectives emerge when we look beyond the boundaries of our own discipline? The NAE Forum explores these questions.
