To ensure that the latest AI knowledge is properly incorporated into policymaking, the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science (OCW) will appoint Prof. Vanessa Evers as Chief Science Advisor, focusing on the impact of AI. Evers is currently also director of Centrum Wiskunde & Informatica (CWI) and a professor at the University of Twente. She will serve as Chief Science Advisor for AI for one day a week.
Chief Science Advisor AI
The Chief Science Advisor is an independent scientific advisor. She will directly contribute external scientific perspectives on the impact of AI on the education, science, culture, and media sectors to the Ministry. In her advisory role, she will connect knowledge from the Dutch AI research field and from scientific advisory councils with policymakers within the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science. This advice will contribute to addressing and interpreting the challenges the Ministry is currently addressing, such as the knowledge and skills people need to participate in the digital society, how we address the changing way art, music, and literature are produced and experienced, and preventing undesirable dependencies on (private) AI providers.
The Chief Science Advisor for AI has been appointed as part of a pilot within the Science for Policy project. In this project, the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science encourages new ways of connecting science, practice, and policy, enabling policymakers to incorporate insights from various scientific disciplines into policy earlier and more effectively.
